While not an officially recognized holiday that comes with a day off from work or school, Halloween is wildly popular in the United States. The last day of October is set aside for costumes, haunted houses, spooky decorations, pumpkins and perhaps most important of all, candy.
Coincidentally, three days before Halloween, Oct. 28, the country also recognizes National Chocolate Day, making the end of October a dream for chocolate enthusiasts.
With the 28th and then the 31st of the month rapidly approaching, BetAlabama.com – your source for Alabama sports betting - wanted to see which chocolate candies are the most popular in the state and in the country. We did so by using Statista’s research on the most consumed chocolate candy as a starting point. From there, we used Google Trends to search the level of interest in each chocolate candy from Oct. 1, 2022 to Oct. 18, 2023. We then determined the top three chocolate candies in each state and came up with the following results.
Alabama’s top three candies, in order, are Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Kit Kat and Snickers. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups ranked as the top chocolate in 19 total states, trailed by Kit Kat (12).
Not surprisingly, Reese’s are the top-selling candy brand worldwide, generating more than r 2 billion in sales annually with Alabama doing its part to support them. Thousands of Alabama trick-or-treaters no doubt will be hoping to come home with several Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups to enjoy this year. Reese’s is part of the Hershey family of chocolates.
Kit Kat bars are produced by Nestle and are a staple of their aptly named Nestle’s Favorites candy box that is sold in high quantities this time of year. It also includes Smarties, Aero bars and Coffee Crisp. The standard Kit Kat comes with four “fingers” that can be snapped off and enjoyed individually, but many Alabama trick-or-treaters will come home with smaller sized two-finger varieties as part of their Halloween haul.
Coming in third for Alabama is Snickers, a nougat bar topped with caramel and peanuts and encased in chocolate and distributed by Mars, Inc. With more than $3 billion in worldwide sales annually, it is safe to say that Snickers is not exclusive to Alabama when it comes to its popularity.
It’s a great time of year for candy lovers, and in the state of Alabama it is clear which candy bars trick-or-treaters are hoping for the most. Keep an eye on BetAlabama.com for updates on possible sports betting legislation as well as Alabama sports betting promo codes.
